INSIDER ESPORTS – Insider eSports receives word that Web 2 Zone, a popular LAN in NYC, is shutting down for good.

“We are sorry to announce that web2zone will be closing due to such unfortunate events” they stated on a flier located outside their building.  “It has been a pleasure serving you for the past 7 years and we hope that for the New Year (2009) will bring good fortune to each and every one of you.”

Web2Zone has been a major Eastern LAN for many years, drawing large crowds for their tournaments.  They did not release information on why they are closing.

“Well it should be closing by the end of this month if not at the beginning of [February],” an employee said, asking to remain anonymous.  “It’s a guarantee it is closing down, though.”

Insider eSports asked this employee his opinion on whether or not eSports will be affected by this.  He replied that he doesn’t “…think web2zone closing down will affect eSports in a major [global] way, but it will affect all the tri-state gamers.  They won’t have a place where they can boot camp and prepare for bigger tournaments.”
